St Peters Church, PlymouthSt Peters Church Lighting
Working with Faber Maunsell and Harris McMillan Architects, Amos Lighting were approached to assist with the lighting design and supply of luminaires for the prestigious refurbishment of St Peters Church in Plymouth. It was the architect’s intention to transform the interior of the space into a 21st Century place of worship. Whilst respecting the original fabric of the building, the new interior focussed on taking advantage of the latest available technology, in addition to embracing some very original creative input. Ambient lighting is provided by dimmable quad 80w PL-L uplights combined with the fabulous Corona pendant from Louis Poulsen. The centre piece of the central nave is a 10m rill with constantly flowing water. Sealed underneath the inscripted etched glass are fibre optic spots that dynamically illuminate each point at which the water breaks at a defined step along the rill. The crowning glory of the whole church is a bespoke 2.4m diameter chandelier fabricated from high quality stainless steel. Intertwined with steel wire and metal studs, this stunning centre-piece completely fulfils the brief of representing a crown of thorns. The project took around 12 months to design and develop with the implementation taking a further 6 months. |
