David Amos

I count myself lucky to love what I do, relish having such a great team and am always striving to do better for the customer, my team and my family.

School was never for me, but the workplace surely is and I guess I’m the perfect example of QBE – qualified by experience.  My father gave me a job in lighting, aged 17, and here I am 35 years later under my own steam.

Hobbies are few, but intense – my family and cars!

Nicola Amos

My early career was spent in fundraising, PR and marketing within the charity sector.  I loved my work and relished the sense of achievement in terms of making a difference.  Many of the skills learned have been transferred to running our own business now.  No day is the same and I feel very lucky to be a part of such an exciting business.

Work and home often overlap, but home life is very important.  We have two young children who are busy little people, a lovely springer spaniel and a couple of rabbits!  At the weekend, you may find me on a tennis court or, more often than not, ferrying the children to cricket or ballet!

I have over 25 years’ experience in Customer Service and Sales, working in Retail, Banking and Advertising and Marketing and have spent time working overseas and in London before relocating to East Devon.  I look after the Marsh Barton showroom at Amos Lighting and am passionate about delivering the highest standards of customer service.

In my spare time, I’ve been involved with the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award for over 10 years and  I help to train young leaders specialising in leadership, team building and expedition training.

I’m married with three young children.

Moving to Amos from Fired Earth in 2011 provided a fresh interior challenge for me, but an inspiring one and I really enjoy sourcing lights for our customers from our large library of suppliers.  Some of my all time favourite lights are from Original BTC, Davey Lighting or, for a more classic contemporary look, Flos.

When not at work, I’ll be running after my energetic two year old, Lily, and, if ever I have the time to be still, you’ll find me in the garden with a good book!

“I fell in love with the city of Exeter when I started my Geography degree in 2004 and never left! Before joining Amos, I spent nearly ten years in furniture retail where I honed my skills and interest in interiors and home design. I’ve always enjoyed helping customers find beautiful objects that transform their home.”

“When not at work, I love nothing more than spending time outside, especially down in Cornwall. You’ll most likely find me sat on the beach or walking the South West Coast path with friends and family.”

Ashton Hargreaves

I came to work for Amos in 2015.  I had worked for a lighting company before and surprised myself at how much I enjoyed this aspect of retail.  I have now swapped fashion for interior – and think it was a wise decision!

My husband and I were both born in Exeter and we’ve seen the city change into a now vibrant place to live which is attracting exciting and innovative businesses to the South West.  Our passion is dance and we are part of an Exeter-based dance company.  We have competed a few times and have travelled around the country to do so.

I’m happy to call myself a petrol-head and thank my father for instigating that!  I am also a trained photographer and this has certainly helped me in my creativity when it comes to looking at clients’ properties.

We moved to a new house in 2015 and have had a blank canvas enabling us to delve into the interior design side of things.  Working at Amos has given me further insight and a host of ideas for lighting and furniture.

My favourite light manufacturer is Foscarini for its innovative design and high-end statement pieces.  I also adore anything Italian and so love the majority of furniture pieces in the Amos  showroom.

As a mum of three, I now work part-time in the showroom.  I have always had a keen eye for colour and style and love to keep up to date on all the latest style trends.  This led me to complete a degree in interior design and diplomas in curtain making and soft furnishings.  I love finding out about the customer and then searching for the right product for them.  My stress relief comes from taking exercise classes!

Helen Mills

I can’t quite believe that I’ve worked at Amos Lighting for nearly 12 years!  And, during that time, my knowledge of lighting and interiors has soared.  It’s been interesting to watch the trends, but really good design tends to stick around and I have sold the same design classics over and over again to delighted customers.

Outside of work, I make and sell my own range of jewellery and am a trained counsellor so life is never dull or quiet!

Day to day I manage the stores, receiving goods in, making sure they are allocated to the right place or customer and keeping on top of display items – it’s always busy.  You’ll usually find me in the stock room although occasionally, I’m “allowed” out into the showroom with my paintbrush! Outside of work, one of my great interests has always been golf reaching semi-professional standard.  I don’t play as much now as I would like, but once a golfer always a golfer!

Donna Bates

I’m looking forward to returning to work later in the year following the birth of my second child.

I work in the showroom and have a background in furniture so can bring an added flair for interiors to my role.  I love finding out about our customers and what they are doing in their homes.  There is a lighting solution for every space and I really enjoy finding the right one for each customer.

Jay Gater

Having previously worked as an E-commerce Manager within bespoke retail, I joined the Amos in 2016 to help refine and develop our online presence. I have over 10 years of experience in retail and I am focused on delivering the best customer experience online and instore.
Outside of work I have a passion for Music and play guitar for a couple of local bands. I love spending time with my Wife and 2 young daughters.

Christine Hawkins

I joined Amos in May 2016. I have a background in finance for charities but spent five years in London in two very different roles – one in private equity investing in energy and the other working for a regulatory body. At Amos I aim to develop systems that can provide the best information required to develop and grow the business. I also have an ‘O’ Level in Welsh and quote Vogon poetry!

Nickie Tilley

I’ve worked with David for over 20 years!  Can’t quite believe it, but it’s been great to have been a part of Amos Lighting from Day One.

Showroom staff have taken to calling me “The Oracle” – flattering, but not entirely true.  I can answer most questions thrown at me, but the lighting industry is always changing – so no time for standing still.

I’m a Morris Minor owner,  so when I’m not working, you’ll find me, and my husband, at many of the local classic car rallies.

Liz Hall

Ten years as a Lighting Designer has flown by. Being part of a small, but vibrant and diverse team does entail a lot of multitasking and you could find me in the showroom sorting deliveries for projects or even wielding the odd tool or paintbrush as we constantly “play with” and upgrade the showroom.

Outside work, life centres around pursuing an MA in English Literature with the Open University, but sanity is maintained with yoga, swimming and messing about on the allotment.
