I’m often asked how I have lit my own home? Well, in the first instance, as someone who specifies recessed lights every day, they are notable by their absence in our sitting room – in a room measuring 7m x 3.5m there are precisely ….. none!
I hear you ask, is the room bright enough? Well yes, it is actually. Instead of the ubiquitous downlight, I have instead used 2 Foglio wall lights by Flos of Italy, designed by Tobia Scarpa in 1966, the approximate age of our home. Concealing 2 regular lamps behind an elegant white form, the diffused light benefits from the perfect combination of glare control, style and design provenance. These wall lights are supplemented by table and floor lamps for reading. This mix of illumination from table, floor and wall provides more than adequate light for 95% of the time, and that’s good enough for me.
All are controllable to alter the mood and, most importantly, create a soft and welcoming evening light.
The Flos Foglio Wall Light is available in Gold, White, Black, Chrome and Black Chrome – Prices start from £190
